Safety & Prohibited Items
How we keep the marketplace clean and how you can protect yourself.
How we protect you
- Escrow on every transaction — your money never goes directly to the seller
- Mandatory tracking on all shipments
- Identity verification for all sellers via Stripe Connect
- AI-powered listing monitoring for suspicious patterns
- Community reporting system — flag anything that looks wrong
- 48-hour inspection window before payment releases
- Seller reputation system with rolling incident tracking
Counterfeit detection
Anime figure bootlegs are everywhere. We take counterfeits seriously.
- AI visual matching against our 7M+ product catalog helps flag suspicious listings
- Community reporting — experienced collectors are often the first to spot fakes
- Seller history — accounts with counterfeit incidents are flagged and monitored
- Photo review — our team checks listing photos for known bootleg indicators (paint quality, base quality, packaging printing)
- If a counterfeit slips through: full buyer refund, seller account action, potential permanent ban
How to spot a scam
- Price too good to be true — a $300 figure listed for $50 is almost certainly fake or a scam
- New seller with no history selling high-value items
- Listing photos that look like stock images rather than actual photos of the item
- Seller asks you to pay outside the platform (PayPal, Venmo, bank transfer) — never do this
- Seller pressures you to skip buyer protection
- Vague or copied descriptions with no specific details about the item's condition
Prohibited items
The following cannot be sold on the marketplace:
- Counterfeit, replica, or bootleg items
- Stolen goods
- Items that violate intellectual property rights
- Hazardous materials or items with dangerous components
- Weapons of any kind
- Illegal items under Canadian law
- CSAM or content sexualizing minors in any form
- Items not related to the platform's categories (figures, goods, media, apparel, accessories, lots)
Stay on platform
All transactions must happen through Tokyofishmarket. If a seller or buyer asks you to pay or communicate outside the platform — through PayPal, Discord DMs, email, or any other channel — don't do it. Off-platform transactions have zero protection. You lose buyer protection, escrow, dispute resolution, and the ability to file a claim. Report anyone who asks you to go off-platform.
Reporting suspicious activity
See something wrong? Use the flag icon on any listing, profile, or message. You can also email abuse@tokyofishmarket.com. Reports are reviewed by our team — not just automated filters. You can report anonymously.
